Investing in a Wall Hanging Tapestry

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Investing in a Wall Hanging TapestryWhile there are many things in which a person could invest, a wall hanging tapestry is an excellent choice of investment. The more expensive tapestries are woven with fine thread, nearly 17 miles of thread in some cases, and take more than a year of intricate artistry to complete. Some of these luxuriant tapestries are priced in the thousands. There are less expensive types of tapestries, which are also less intricate but are lovely still. A good, quality wall hanging tapestry will last many years. This means that the tapestry can enhance the spaces it is placed in for generations, passed from one to the next as a precious heirloom. Most tapestries offer incredible detailing and color and the style choices are endless.

Tradition Meets Modernity with Contemporary Tapestry Wall HangingsThere is an ever increasing amount of contemporary styled tapestry wall hangings on the market today. Yet, despite the availability, the traditional, ancestral designed pieces from the past continue to be popular. These sought after art forms can include anything from Gothic styling, to 17th and 18th century works of the French Baroque genre, to the more recent creations of William Morris. The main cause for their impressively high appeal is their representation of history. The vast range of themes and designs include subjects such as the birth and death of a nation, art movements of various time periods, and memorable historic scenes. In fact, tapestry wall hangings are popular largely because of their connection with the past.

Tips for Hanging Tapestries

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Tips for Hanging TapestriesTypically, hanging tapestries is done in one of two ways. First, a wooden dowel is used. For this, the dowel would be cut to length with the ends being left slightly longer. Then, small cup hooks are inserted into the ends of the dowel after the tapestry has been slid in. The cup hooks should be placed on picture hook nails in the wall. Second, decorative curtain rods can be used for hanging tapestries. In this case, the homeowner would choose a style of rod and finial that works with both the tapestry and the room’s decor. Brackets would be used so that the tapestry hangs a couple of inches away from the wall. The final look in both cases is a sophisticated and elegant piece of art work. For quality tapestries, the price is generally high but this is an excellent investment.

Properly Hanging Tapestries

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Properly Hanging TapestriesHanging a tapestry depends on the type that it is. Some tapestries are finished with a second backing and some are not. For those with a backing, there are usually tabs or some type of sleeve through which a rod or dowel would be placed. Although a dowel rod works, the best option for hanging tapestries is with a decorative window rod. These rods not only work great for hanging tapestries, but they are also affordable and easy to find. Brackets for the rod would be installed on the wall where the tapestry would hang, helping to keep the piece of art a couple of inches out away from the wall. Of course, finials can be added to the rod to create a gorgeous and elegant look. However, flush mounting can be done using a rod and two picture hanging brackets with the nails at a 45-degree angle.
