Storing an Antique Tapestry

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Storing an Antique TapestryFor people who own an antique tapestry, it is imperative that it be stored properly when not being displayed. Because it is an antique tapestry, meaning it is at least 100 years old, it needs to be cared for in the right way. First, the tapestry can be stored in a clean, unpainted natural wicker basket with a cover. While the tapestry would get good air ventilation, it would also be protected from dirt and dust. The tapestry should be carefully folded inside white tissue paper and then placed in something without any sharp or jagged edges that could rip or tear the item. However, before any wall tapestry is stored, it is advised to have it professionally dry cleaned. Another option is to use a cardboard box with tiny air holes. The paper used needs to be acid free to ensure the tapestry is not damaged.

Appreciating the History of Antique Tapestry

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Appreciating the History of Antique TapestryAntique tapestry refers to tapestry slightly aged, certainly not the ancient tapestry of Rome or Greece. There is evidence suggesting that tapestry goes back as far as the B.C. era, making it one of the most ancient forms of human art in existence. Tapestry is still practiced today, though it is a product of sophisticated tastes, compared to posters that are cheaper to manufacture. However, tapestry remains the choice of many to decorate their living rooms. Antique tapestry may be labeled such due to its vintage subject matter or its physical history. Antique tapestries may include artistic designs in music, cuisine, international culture or historical moments. Tapestries may be wall-hanging products, pillows or even throws. You can imagine why an art lover would appreciate this thoughtful gift.
